FAQs About Summer Scholarships

Do I have to enroll 12 credits in the summer?

No. You just need to be enrolled in at least 6 credits for summer to receive a portion of your scholarship. If you are enrolled in less than 12 credits, your scholarship will be reduced.

EX: Trustees Scholarship $1200, enrolled in 6 credits for summer, scholarship will be reduced to $600 as 6 credits is half time enrollment.

How can I qualify for summer to be added?

You need to be enrolled in the previous spring semester for summer to be added to your scholarship. You will also have to be enrolled in at least 6 credits for summer semester.

The Scholarship Office will automatically add summer semester once we see these two requirements met and if you have met the academic requirements for your scholarship.

If you did not meet your requirements you cannot receive summer semester, even if you are attending to make up missing requirements.

If I lose my scholarship at the end of spring, can I still attend summer to make up requirements?

Definitely! You can always attend summer semester to make up missing requirements and earn your scholarship back for the following year. However, you cannot receive the scholarship over summer while making up requirements.

In this instance, it will be either out of pocket or with the help of Federal Financial Aid.

Why is my scholarship not on the list of approved scholarships?

If you have any of the following scholarships, they are not eligible for summer aid. The reason why, is summer semester is only resident tuition, and none of these scholarships apply towards the resident portion of your tuition. So summer is either the same or less out of pocket costs as any other semester.

Ineligible Scholarships:

  • Non-Resident Chancellors, Non-Resident Transfer Chancellors, Non-Resident Founders, Non-Resident Transfer Founders, WUE, Red Rocks, Good Neighbor, Half Merit, and Non-Resident Alumni Legacy.

Utah Tech doesn't offer my classes in the summer, can I still attend another institution in summer and not lose my scholarship?

Yes, that is still an option. Just remember your credits you take elsewhere over the summer will still count towards your overall attempted credit max.

However, your Utah Tech Scholarship is not transferrable to the other institution over the summer. Those credits would be out of pocket at that other institution.

Now that summer is an option, is it a required semester to attend?

No. Summer is still an optional semester. This is to help out those students that choose to attend summer semester and are still in good standing with their scholarship.

Can I use my scholarship in the summer if I didn't attend the prior spring semester?

Unfortunately, no. If you are a brand new student who is starting summer or fall semester, you cannot receive the scholarship over summer.
