Applicants should be aware that these positions are deadline intensive, require a weekly commitment of 10-18 hours, and require registering for a Sun News production course (MDIA 2210/3210). All majors and skill levels are welcome to apply, but additional courses may be required for certain positions. Strong written, technical and oral communication skills are a must. Applicants must also have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and maintain a 12-credit course load each semester. Scholarship amounts vary by position. Recipients will be required to sign a contract that outlines their responsibilities and holds them accountable for meeting them.​
Editor-in-chief
Responsible for all Sun News content, including overseeing production of website and newsletter, editing and approving content, conducting meetings, training and managing staff, determining and following policies and procedures, and producing content weekly. Knowledge of news style and industry practices required. Pre-requisite: MDIA 1130. Averages 18 hours/week.
Section editors
One each for News, Features, Opinion and Sports. Responsible for generating, assigning and editing content for their sections, training and managing staff, and producing content weekly. Pre-/co-requisite: MDIA 1130. Averages 15 hours/week.
Photo editor
Responsible for overseeing photos/graphics/illustrations, training and managing staff, editing content, writing/editing captions, and producing content weekly. In-depth knowledge of photography, equipment and Photoshop required. Optional co-requisite: MDIA 1130. Averages 15 hours/week.
Video editor
Responsible for assigning/producing/supervising web video content, training staff members in video production, and producing content weekly. Video production and editing experience required. Preferred pre-/co-requisite: MDIA 1130. Averages 12 hours/week.
Copy editor
Responsible for editing all copy, including stories, headlines, summaries and captions, as well as producing content weekly. Knowledge of AP Style and attention to detail required. Pre-requisite: MDIA 1130. Averages 12 hours/week.
Social media editor
Responsible for managing all Sun News social media accounts daily, tracking staff members’ social media usage, training staff, launching marketing campaigns, and producing weekly content. Experience with social media platforms required. Preferred Pre-requisite: MDIA 1130. Averages 12 hours/week.
Podcast Editor
Responsible for hosting, generating, assigning, and editing the Sun News weekly podcast. Preferred re-requisite: MDIA 1130. Averages 12 hours/week.
News Anchor
Responsible for being the main on-air talent for the weekly newscast, as well as writing stories and shooting/editing weekly video content. The show broadcasts Thursdays at noon. Pre-/co-requisite: MDIA 1130. Averages 12 hours/week.
Sports Anchor
Responsible for being the main on-air talent for the weekly newscast, as well as writing stories and shooting/editing weekly video content. Pre-/co-requisite: MDIA 1130. Averages 12 hours/week.
Weather Anchor

Producer
Responsible for assigning/producing/supervising show video content, building the weekly news broadcast, writing stories and scripts, and designing graphics. The show broadcasts Thursdays at noon. Preferred pre-/co-requisites: MDIA 1130, 1380. Averages 12 hours/week.
Multimedia Reporters
Responsible for writing articles, producing video stories, and taking photos. Video and photography experience preferred. Position may be adapted to focus on video production only or on a beat (all content would be on the same subject matter). Pre-/co-requisite: MDIA 1130. Averages 12 hours/week.
Staff Writer
Responsible for writing two stories weekly in any section. Pre-/co-requisite: MDIA 1130. Averages 12 hours/week.
Sports writer
Responsible for writing two stories weekly in sports. Pre-/co-requisite: MDIA 1130. Averages 12 hours/week.
Photographers
Responsible for completing up to five photo assignments and writing captions weekly. Experience preferred. Averages 12 hours/week.
Graphic Designer
Responsible for designing advertisements and infographics. Experience preferred. Averages 12 hours/week.
Advertising manager
Responsible for selling advertising, billing, signing contracts, maintaining and developing client relations, and collaborating with the editor-in-chief to market the Sun News. Design experience is helpful but not required. Sales/marketing experience preferred. This is a paid position based on commission that might also come with a scholarship depending on eligibility. Averages 10 hours/week. No course enrollment required.
